Oakland is rich with young people working to positively impact their schools and communities. They’ve organized demonstrations, launched petitions, started organizations, advocated for the removal of school police, and secured the youth vote

The Oaklandside is looking to highlight youth leaders and how schools cultivate them. We want to hear from school leaders, educators, and community members about students who are leading positive change in their schools and communities. Is there a student who advocated for a new program to support newcomers, a young person who worked with administrators to improve the school culture, or a student group that launched a fundraiser to provide professional clothing for students pursuing internships? Tell us about them.
